Life and Work Tips

Life and Work Tips

Make a difference in someone’s life.
Constantly ask your staff their opinion.
When traveling, carry thank you cards. Many times during your travels
you meet people who have taken care of you or have hosted you in
some way. No better time to write thank-you cards than on the plane
home.
Constantly ask yourself questions until you get all the right answers.
Schedule time with your family...and follow through with your schedule.
The most important thing in your life is your family; second is your
job. You can’t support your family without a job. Balance is important.
Think big! Always think big.
Never eat in an airport. Many times the temptation is to eat when you
are waiting to catch a flight. Eat a solid meal before you leave the
house, and if you do eat at airports, stay away from fried foods.
Read! It’s good for you. Read.
Read what your boss reads.
Focus to improve everything you touch.
Never, never, never forget where you came from. Be sure to always
honor and respect the people who have helped you throughout your
career.
Integrity is the consistency of what you say and what you do.
Who do you admire the most? Practice to be like them.
Always take advantage of your time while flying. I get so much work
done on planes. No distractions, no phones, no business questions.
Taking advantage of your time does not necessarily mean ‘‘working,’’
although it is a good time to work. It could mean simply reading a good book, writing special notes of encouragement to your staff, writing
thank you cards, or if traveling with your family—spending quality
time with your loved ones.
Be a good listener. Most times it is best just to listen to what everyone
has to say before making an assessment or responding.
Start thinking about your workday the minute you get out of bed. Line
your day up during your drive in to work. If you are like me, you need
to carry a tape recorder in the car to record your ideas.
Choosing to be kind will force your attitude to change.
Commit to only hiring culinarians.
Exercise!
Call a family member at least once a week.
Make mentoring a part of your legacy.
What comes around, goes around.
Your word should mean something.
Show up early!
Make an impact with your life and your work ethic.
Always push to reach the top.
If you think you’re at the top, remember there is always more room
at the top.
